The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. 

 
In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:

 
a) have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities;
b) are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or
c) are sponsored by governmental/non governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor.
d) are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months.
e) are between 20 and 36 years of age.

 

Background Information

Under the overall supervision of the Director, Coordination Office for the Mediterranean, Chief of Mission in Italy and Malta, Representative to the Holy See and under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Associate (Migration) the incumbent shall assist in implementing activities related to the CinemArena Information Campaign in Italy and in Bangladesh.

The Migration Management Unit of the Coordination Office for the Mediterranean of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) carries out several initiatives to strengthen migration management in Italy and in countries of transit and origin, through different areas of intervention including the implementation of awareness-raising projects informing on the risks of irregular migration and promoting social cohesion as well as socio-economic and empowerment opportunities as positive alternatives.

Responsibilities

  • Support content collection and organization (updates, photos, short texts) for social media and website updates, including drafting posts, collecting stories and field updates (with a focus on Bangladesh), and supporting audience engagement and outreach;
  • Support the preparation of information and visibility materials (digital and print), to be developed/produced in English and Bangla, including leaflets, brochures, infographics, comic books, guidelines, video testimonies, and visual assets;
  • Provide logistical and organizational support for events, workshops and meetings, including preparing materials and taking notes; 
  • Assist with informal translations into/from English/Bangla project documents such as reports, assessments, guidelines, monitoring, etc.;
  • Provide general assistance for the fulfilment of administrative procedures in line with IOM rules, regulations and standards.
  • Keep in good order all the documents related to information campaign files;
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent); or 
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or 
  • Have graduated with one of the above university degrees and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation.
  • Preferably with an academic background in Social Sciences, Political Science, Humanitarian and Development Studies, Arts and Cultural Event Management, Communication, or other related fields.

 

Experience

The following experiences are considered an advantage:

  • Knowledge of or strong interest in migration issues, particularly in the Bangladeshi context; 

  • Experience (including academic or voluntary) in communication, social media management, content creation (including social media content, flyers, brochures, and other visibility materials); 

  • Experience in basic administrative tasks such as document filing, data entry, and email correspondence.

Skills

  • Great critical thinking, proactiveness and creativity;

  • Excellent organizational and teamwork skills;

  • Good understanding and command of media and communication tools (digital and traditional);

  • Knowledge of graphic design programs (Canva, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.) and video creation skills will be considered an advantage.

 

Languages

For this internship, fluency in Bangla and English is required (oral and written).

Working knowledge of Italian is considered an asset.

 

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Notes

Interns are granted a small monthly stipend to help offset costs. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by their university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend.

IOM covers Interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the internship. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
